Almost two million people actively used shared bikes and shared e-scooters in Belgium last year, according to figures from sharing mobility network Way To Go.
These are 723,000 active users of share bikes and 1.2 million active users of share scooters. With almost 22,000 bikes and 19,000 scooters, a total of 24 million trips were made last year.
While shared bikes are particularly popular in the Brussels-Capital Region, Flanders dominates the use of shared bikes: the majority (64%) of bikes are in Flanders, which is also where most (77%) trips are made.
Wallonia lags behind in terms of shared mobility; barely 1% of shared bikes are in the south of the country.
Almost 9,000 shared cars were used in Belgium in 2024 – fewer than in 2023. More than half of them are parked in Flanders. The number of active car sharers in Flanders rose 22% last year to more than 46,000.
