Man stabbed at Holocaust Memorial in Berlin, suspect arrested

A 30-year-old Spanish national was seriously wounded in a stabbing incident near the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin at around 6.00 p.m. on Friday evening.

The unknown assailant fled the scene.

The victim was transported to hospital with severe injuries. Police have indicated that his condition is stable and not life-threatening. Six witnesses were in shock and were assisted by emergency services.

The police, who arrived en masse, cordoned off the area around the  memorial and searched the vicinity. A suspect has since been arrested near the scene of the stabbing, police reported on X (formerly Twitter) at around 9.00 p.m.

The assault weapon has not been found and the motive remains unclear, according to police spokesperson Florian Nath.

The U.S. Embassy is also located near the site of the stabbing.
