The French Community of Belgium is initiating a long-awaited reform of after-school care with two measures worth €2.7 million in 2025, announced Minister Valérie Lescrenier on Sunday.

The first measure introduces the role of project manager in after-school care, creating at least 41 full-time positions for around 70 pilot projects.

The second measure makes basic training more accessible for care coordinators through a fixed allowance.

These initiatives lay the foundation for a reform aimed at better recognition of out-of-school care. “This sector needs both strengthening and reform to ensure quality service for children and their families, as well as more stable jobs for care staff and their supervisors,” stated Minister Lescrenier.

The evaluation of these pilot projects is expected to guide the necessary sector reforms next year.
