A newborn baby died Monday in Paris after being thrown from a hotel window by its mother – a US national who was hospitalised and then arrested.
The woman was part of a group of young adults travelling in Europe, according to the Public Prosecutor.
"The child was allegedly thrown from the second-floor window of a hotel in the 20th arrondissement," the prosecutor stated. "The newborn received emergency treatment but did not survive."
The mother was taken to the hospital where she is to undergo surgery following her delivery. "The young woman was taken into custody at the scene," the prosecutor added.
An investigation has been launched into murder of a minor.
