In 2025, 150 speed cameras will be installed on Walloon roads, confirmed Walloon Mobility Minister François Desquesnes at a plenary session of the regional parliament on Wednesday.

This includes 100 spot speed cameras, 40 average speed cameras, and ten red light cameras.

"This is the same number of speed cameras as in 2024 but fewer than the 250 requested by mayors and police zones," he clarified.

"If the deployment of speed cameras cannot meet the demands of local authorities, it is due to processing difficulties related to the capacities of the police and the judiciary," added Desquesnes. He recalled that a 2019 decree plans the conversion of minor speeding offences into administrative fines.

"My wish is that we can quickly activate the processing of these minor offences by the Walloon administration to relieve the police and judicial services," he concluded.
