Dutch supermarket chain Jumbo plans to open around ten stores in Belgium this year, according to its annual report.
The retailer will be approaching 50 locations in Belgium, six years after it first entered the market.
Last year, Jumbo opened four new stores in the country, bringing its total to 38. These 38 stores generated a revenue of €397 million and a modest profit, a year earlier than expected.
"We expect continued growth in revenue in Belgium, both from existing stores and new ones," the company stated in its annual report.
Jumbo is focusing on improving in-store processes, increasing the product range, and seeking opportunities to add more local products.
Jumbo opened its first Belgian supermarket in Pelt, Limburg, in 2019. All of its current stores are located in Flanders.
The group also announced the interim appointment of Tom Heidman as CEO. He will assume the role from 1 March until a successor is found for Ton van Veen.
Van Veen announced his departure in January after more than 20 years with the company, having become CEO in 2022.
