Aloïs D. (90) has been detained by the Bruges investigating judge, as confirmed by the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office.

A 97-year-old man and a 93-year-old man were killed in a care home in Dentergem, while a 94-year-old woman is in critical condition.

The violent incident shocked the Mariaburcht care home on the night of Thursday to Friday. A 90-year-old resident attacked a 97-year-old man and a 94-year-old woman in their room. The man could not be saved, and the woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Prosecutors confirmed she remained in life-threatening condition on Saturday.

In another room, a 93-year-old man was also violently killed. Aloïs D. has been arrested as a suspect.

Notably, the 90-year-old man previously killed his 87-year-old wife, Mariette C., on 21 September 2021, allegedly striking her head with a hammer at their home in Oostrozebeke.

Following this, the Kortrijk court chamber ordered D.’s detention on 22 October 2021.
