Police in Carma zone, which includes Genk, have arrested a man in a house where firearms and a drug-manufacturing lab were discovered.
Authorities reported on Friday that law enforcement executed an arrest warrant at the residence on Homsbergstraat, Genk, on Thursday. They found a suspect, a shotgun within easy reach, various measuring cups, remnants of narcotics, and suspicious liquids. A strong chemical odour permeated the scene.
A subsequent search led to the seizure of multiple drugs, including 1.6 kilogrammes of speed, 800 millilitres of GHB, 33 grammes of MDMA, 96 grammes of ketamine, 9 grammes of cocaine, and 5 grammes of crystal meth.
Cash and several mobile phones were also confiscated, while a second firearm was discovered under a bed.
Further investigation revealed several containers, kitchen utensils, and various accoutrements indicative of synthetic drug production.
An enquiry will determine the extent of the activities at this illicit laboratory.
The two occupants of the house were arrested on the order of the Limburg public prosecutor’s office and appeared on Friday afternoon before a magistrate, who ordered their detention at Hasselt prison.
The Carma police zone, which covers As, Bocholt, Bree, Genk, Houthalen-Helchteren, Kinrooi, Oudsbergen and Zutendaal, continues its investigation.
