US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has declared the South African Ambassador to the United States, Ebrahim Rasool, “persona non grata” and accused him of hating Donald Trump.
The move came after the diplomat publicly opposed aspects of Trump’s foreign policy at a discussion on Friday, US media reported.
Rubio claimed in a post on X that Rasoom was “a race-baiting politician who hates America and hates” Trump.
He said the South African diplomat was “no longer welcome” in Washington.
“We have nothing to discuss with him,” Rubio said, adding that Rasool was therefore considered “persona non grata.”
