It Never Ends Part 2 - John M Armleder & Guests at KANAL Centre Pompidou

Back in September 2020, John M Armleder was invited to fill the six floors of the showroom of the former Citroën garage, and now he is back with the second part of the exhibition from 4 February to 25 April 2021.

The result is a dialogue with a series of large installations, which he specifically designed for the space and a constellation of exhibitions, performances, concerts and meetings. The exhibition will be presented safely, in accordance to Covid-19 requirements.

It Never Ends – Part 2 continues to explore the world of Armleder, who has always thought of art in terms of collaboration, friendship and hospitality, Even though this is a solo exhibition, it also showcases the work of other artists.

Public Space

The exhibition takes place in a public space, open from Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 7pm with free admission, occupying the first two levels of the building. When you enter, you will see a new installation by the artist, designed from scaffolding, plants, lights and screens, connecting the ground floor with the first floor, where the artist has created on site one of his most important furniture sculpture to date. The space also includes an experimental library (designed and produced in collaboration with the CIVA), a temporary printing house offering workshops, and a co-working space, all free to enter.

It Never Ends – Part 2

The exhibition continues on the four upper levels, each of the industrial floors of the showroom is occupied by Armleder in a different way. As in the first part, different exhibitions are on display, designed and staged by himself. These exhibitions include works by guest artists as well as presentations of collections.

Alongside some of the installations already shown in the first part, a monumental sculpture in the shape of a golden mushroom by Sylvie Fleury (Mushroom Autowave Rich-Gold Petzold silber F14 - from February 4 to April 25 ), a spectacular solo exhibition by Swiss-American artist Christian Marclay (from February 4 to March 7) and the rare presentation of a set of Fluxus boxes from the collection of the Musée national d'art moderne - Center Pompidou de Paris, directed by Armleder himself.

The exhibition also features the work of Genesis (Breyer) P-Orridge (Loyalty Doesn't End with Death - from March 18 to April 25), who died in March 2020 while she was working on her exhibition as part of It Never Ends. The Big Bird exhibition will close by bringing together three painters, Domenico Battista, Thomas Downing and Olivier Mosset in an experimental scenography, specially imagined by Armleder.

As in the first part, in It Never Ends – Part 2, Armleder offers every month a choice of artist films, inspired by the collections of the MNAM - Center Pompidou. You can discover, among others, the experimental films of Fluxus, an erotic masterpiece from the 1960s by the American artist Caroline Schneemann, feminist videos by Hannah Wilke, and a new work by the Swiss artist Philippe Decrauzat.
