The number of bicycle insurance policies increased by 13% on average last year, according to a survey by Assuralia, the professional federation of insurance companies, conducted among its members.

The survey, released on Tuesday, involved 11 insurers offering bicycle contracts and covered 80% of the bicycle insurance market. Assuralia analysed a sample of 229,039 contracts.

In 2024, insurers surveyed by Assuralia reported a 13% growth in bicycle policies, following increases of 40% in 2022 and 30% in 2023.

The survey also revealed that 85% of individuals with bike insurance are covered against theft. The average compensation for a stolen bicycle is €1,950, while the average compensation for material damage is €994.
