Unemployment rate stable in eurozone in March

The unemployment rate in the eurozone remained stable at 6.2% in March, unchanged since December, according to Eurostat's announcement on Friday.

This rate is the lowest recorded since the European statistical office began compiling these figures in April 1998 for countries using the single currency.

February's figure was initially reported at 6.1% but was revised up by 0.1 percentage points. Year-on-year, March saw a 0.3 percentage point decrease in unemployment across the 20 eurozone member countries.

For the entire European Union, the unemployment rate has also remained stable at a historic low of 5.8% since December.

In March, approximately 12.9 million people were unemployed across the 27 EU nations, including 10.8 million in the eurozone.

How did Belgium fare?

According to Eurostat's harmonised data, Belgium's unemployment rate stands at 5.9%.

Belgium outperformed Italy (6%), France (7.3%), and Spain (10.9%) but lagged behind Germany (3.5%) and the Netherlands (3.9%).

Within the EU, the lowest unemployment rates were observed in Czechia (2.6%) and Poland (2.7%), while the highest were in Spain, Finland (9.1%), Greece (9%), and Sweden (8.8%).
