The Brussels public prosecutor’s office has requested prison sentences ranging from four to 50 months for five Armenians involved in a shooting last year that left a 37-year-old man seriously injured.
The shooting occurred around 10:00 p.m. on 1 July 2024, at Café Le Calypso on Eudore Pirmezlaan in Etterbeek. Police were called after the shots were heard, and found a man critically injured in the café, with gunshot wounds to his right arm, hip, and buttocks.
The injured man was taken to hospital, while bullet casings of three different calibres were discovered at the scene.
CCTV footage captured the incident from various angles, showing six men entering the café and engaging in a conversation with the victim. The discussion remained calm until they suddenly turned on him. One man, identified as K.K., attempted to assault the victim but was restrained, which led him to draw a gun and shoot.
Two other individuals, K.H. and T.L also shot at the victim, who tried to run away, but fell to the ground. A scuffle ensued, during which a fourth man, A.G., allegedly got hold of K.K.'s gun and tried to shoot at a bystander.
When the police intervened, a fifth man, A.K., was found to be carrying a knife.
The three first shooters, K.K., K.H., and T.L., are now being prosecuted for attempted murder and the prosecutor's office has requested prison terms of 50 and 37 months for them.
A.G. was also charged and faces 37 months in prison for attempted manslaughter. A four-month jail term has been requested for the fifth accused.
