A 17-year-old girl was briefly in a life-threatening condition during the second day of the Horst Festival after an incident involving alcohol and drugs.
Her friends brought her to the first aid station around midnight, where an emergency doctor provided initial care. This was reported by Het Nieuwsblad and confirmed by the festival organisers.
The exact details of what went wrong remain unclear, according to Jochem Daelman, co-founder of Onkruid, the group behind the festival. It is certain, however, that excessive consumption of alcohol and drugs was the primary cause.

The emergency doctor quickly stabilised the girl’s condition before she was taken to AZ Jan Portaels hospital, where she spent the night. She was discharged and allowed to return home at around 9:00.
“We’ve been running the festival for eleven years, and incidents like this are extremely rare,” Daelman stated. He highlighted the festival’s focus on "collective care". “Our record of incidents at Horst decreases year on year, despite the festival’s rapid growth. This was shocking, but we are satisfied that our protocols worked effectively.”
