Service on Brussels Metro lines 2 and 6 will remain suspended between Porte de Hal and Osseghem stations until late Monday evening, according to the city’s transport network.

The disruption began on Monday afternoon after smoke was detected on a carriage travelling between the Clemenceau and Delacroix stations. “Our colleagues and emergency services are on site to carry out necessary repairs,” transport utility STIB reported on its website.

The incident occurred shortly after 1:00 p.m., leading to an immediate halt in metro traffic. Passengers on the affected train were evacuated through Delacroix station.

Emergency services quickly arrived to assist three STIB technicians, and transported five passengers, who had inhaled smoke, to hospital.

Brussels firefighters identified the issue as a minor electrical fire on the underside of the metro carriage, but the exact cause was not immediately  known.
