Unclassifiable and multifaceted, the paintings of Mitja Tušek enter into a dialogue with the engaged and offbeat videos of Bertille Bak. With humour and earnestness, both artists explore issues of representation.
Mitja Tušek’s paintings are made of numerous coats, the artist sometimes finishing a painting over several decades. They echo the world’s eras. Populated by hybrid figures inspired by antiquity and the Middle Ages, they resonate with our time. They question appearances, and the world of the visible, hence that of the invisible.
The image, often doubled or mirorred, becomes a reflection, a mise en abîme: which is the reproduction, which is the original?

In her installations and videos, Bertille Bak lends a voice to invisibilised communities, with whom she collaborates in the construction of the project.
Unlike Tušek who works alone in his studio, she works with groups of people, immersing herself in their space and time, comprehending their daily lives and what makes up their (his)tory. Together, they create a new narrative, a fable where the absurd and the poetic co-inhabit. Can reality be revealed by fiction?
