Prosecutors in Antwerp have called for a 12-year prison sentence for alleged drug baron Nordin E.H., known as “Dikke Nordin,” who is believed to be involved in the “Bombs and Grenades” organised crime case, which involves arms and drug trafficking.
The hearing took place in absentia. The defendant, reportedly ill, remained in prison, and his lawyers did not appear before the court. The reasons for the defence’s absence are unknown.
According to the prosecution, the accused led a network that heavily imported cocaine through the Port of Antwerp. The group is said to have amassed a significant arsenal to counter competitors and carried out several violent actions. Nordin E.H. operated from Dubai, where he was arrested in 2023 in a separate case, before being extradited to Belgium in March 2024.
Fifty other defendants in this case were sentenced last year to up to 12 years in prison. Nordin E.H.’s proceedings were separated due to his extradition process, which has now been completed. This allowed the Antwerp Correctional Court to examine his case on Wednesday.
