Belgian electric bike manufacturer Cowboy is recalling its C4 ST (MR Edition) model bikes due to the risk of structural instability of the frame, according to a notice published on its website.

Owners of the affected bikes are being contacted by the manufacturer and asked not to use their bikes until the frame has been replaced free of charge.

"After extensive quality testing, Cowboy has found that some C4 ST (MR Edition) bikes do not meet the high safety and quality standards we demand," the manufacturer said.

Due to a "production anomaly" in the weld between the head tube and the down tube, some bikes may develop fatigue cracks after approximately 2,500 km of use.

In some cases, this can lead to structural failure of the frame, which could in turn cause the rider to fall and injure themselves.

Cowboy is therefore recalling the affected frames, which will be replaced free of charge. Bikes that have travelled more than 2,500 km will be dealt with as a priority.
