The Brussels Ring Road tunnel (R0) under the Léonard junction and the Auderghem-Waterloo slip road will be closed in multiple phases this weekend.
The Flemish Roads and Traffic Agency (AWV) teams will install directional concrete blocks between the tunnel wall and the traffic lane.
Work begins this Friday at 20:30. The Léonard tunnel (R0) will be closed in both directions until 05:00, along with the slip road connecting Waterloo (R0) to Auderghem (E411). However, the route from Auderghem to Waterloo will remain open.
On Saturday, the inner ring tunnel (direction Zaventem – Waterloo) will be closed from 05:00 to 23:30. The slip road between Waterloo and Auderghem will be inaccessible both ways. The outer ring tunnel, heading towards Zaventem, will close at 20:30 and remain closed until 23:30 on Sunday evening.
On Sunday at around 20:30, traffic on the inner ring and the diversion will be briefly halted. Traffic from the junction and the Quatre Bras tunnel will slow down and temporarily stop before the Léonard junction. The connection from Auderghem to Waterloo will close again at 20:30, reopening by 15:00 on Monday at the latest.
The concrete blocks provide protection in case of a collision, ensuring road users’ safety while safeguarding the tunnel wall, according to AWV. The agency explains that closures must be phased because the poured concrete needs time to set and consolidate.
