The eighth edition of Cirkl festival began on Friday in Leuven with a try-out performance of “Hugs & Handshakes” by THERE THERE Company, featuring acrobatics inspired by embraces and handshakes.
Audience participation is encouraged in the THERE THERE Company’s show, with spontaneous interactions complementing prepared acrobatic sequences. Everyday gestures like hugs and handshakes serve as the foundation for breathtaking movements.
While the official premiere of “Hugs & Handshakes” is scheduled for July, Friday’s preview in Leuven earned a standing ovation, setting a promising tone for Cirkl.
This weekend’s Cirkl features 21 performances, marking its first appearance at the Philips site on the Leuven ring road, having previously been held at the Velodroom on Brusselsestraat.
Four tents with individual stages are present at the Philips site, alongside unique stages tailored to specific shows. The performance “Splash” features a pool filled with 25,000 balls, whereas Rode Boom’s show transports visitors through a surreal world with a recreated elephant.
Some activities at the festival require payment, while others are free, including workshops for all ages. The complete programme is available at www.cirklcircus.be. Last year, Cirkl attracted a record 12,000 visitors.
