On Friday, the public prosecutor’s office called for an eight-year prison sentence to be served on a recidivist paedophile aged 60 before the Liège criminal court, together with five years’ release from the sentence enforcement court. The Sprimont resident is charged with the rape of a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant had already been sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment for raping his five-year-old daughter and 30 months’ imprisonment for touching a nine-year-old boy. Despite his previous convictions, he had become close to a single mother with whom he had maintained a friendly relationship. The accused had made himself indispensable to the victim’s destitute family.
It was the nine-year-old boy who reported the acts of rape, sexual acts, debauchery and the making of images of a sexual assault on a minor. The events had occurred when the accused had accompanied the child into the bathroom while he was washing.
The public prosecutor’s office criticised the defendant’s personality, describing him as a ‘sexual predator who takes up residence in underprivileged families’ in order to make himself indispensable and approach a victim. The prosecution requested a sentence of eight years’ imprisonment, together with a five-year stay of execution by the court.
The defendant contested the allegations of rape. His lawyer, Mr Drion, argued for a partially suspended sentence.
Judgement will be handed down on 6 June.
