On Saturday morning, Charleroi’s mayor, Thomas Dermine, symbolically handed over his mayoral sash to influencer Mahdi Ba, who will step into the role of the city’s leader for the weekend, sharing his experience extensively on social media.

The collaboration between Charleroi’s mayor and Mahdi Ba, a Quebec influencer with three million YouTube subscribers, began a few weeks ago during Ba’s initial visit to the city. Following the visit, Ba proposed taking on the role of the mayor for a weekend, an idea that Dermine and his team embraced as an opportunity both to showcase the significant responsibilities of a mayor and to highlight the city of Charleroi, its heritage, and its people.

Throughout the weekend, the young influencer is expected to meet with marrying couples, interact with residents at the Charleroi market, and engage with firefighters and police officers.

Additionally, on Saturday night, he will attend the Olympic Club of Charleroi’s football field to celebrate their historic victory in the Division 1 amateur league and their promotion to the Challenger Pro League.
