French actor Gérard Depardieu, aged 76, was found guilty on Tuesday of sexual assault against two plaintiffs who had filed a lawsuit against him. He has been sentenced to an 18-month suspended prison term by the Paris court. His lawyer plans to appeal the decision.

The incidents occurred on a film set in 2021. Depardieu, not present at the hearing and represented by his lawyer, was convicted of sexually assaulting Amélie, now aged 54, and Sarah (name changed), 34, who worked as a decorator and assistant director respectively on Jean Becker's film 'Les Volets Verts'.

The court also imposed a two-year political disqualification and ordered Depardieu's entry into the sexual offences register, aligning with the prosecution's requests.

Depardieu's lawyer, Jérémie Assous, has already announced that the actor will appeal the judgment.
