Francophone centrist party Les Engagés has unveiled a new plan to intensify efforts against hooliganism.
The proposal is a response to severe fan violence in Brussels following the cup final between Club Brugge and Anderlecht in early May.
Specifically, the party advocates an amendment to the existing football law to hold clubs accountable. Clubs may face penalties for significant shortcomings in organisation or for tolerating the use of illegal pyrotechnics in stadiums.
Les Engagés has outlined a separate set of measures for hooligans. The party suggests that individuals with stadium bans should be mandated to check in at a police station when a match begins, a system already implemented in several neighbouring countries.
The party also adds that geolocation technology could be used to keep banned individuals away from stadiums.
