US technology giant Microsoft has announced plans to eliminate 6,000 jobs, nearly 3% of its global workforce.

The company says it aims to streamline management levels.

“We continue to make the necessary organisational changes to best position the company to succeed in a dynamic market,” a Microsoft spokesperson stated.

These job cuts will be worldwide and will affect all categories of staff, including those at LinkedIn, its professional social networking subsidiary.

As of June 2024, Microsoft employed 228,000 people, according to the latest available figures.

In early 2023, it underwent a restructuring process that resulted in 10,000 job losses.
