The theme 'Good Enough Parenting' will be the focus of Parenting Week, held from 16 to 23 May, highlighting that ups and downs are a natural part of life, organisers announced on Wednesday.

This theme emphasises kindness towards oneself, acknowledging that making mistakes is part of the process. Parents are not required to achieve perfection. By being gentler with themselves, parents send a powerful message to their children: failure and trying again are inherent to life, and ‘good enough’ truly is sufficient.

A survey by the Department of Care reveals that 93% of parents find parenting enriching, and 88% even consider it enjoyable. However, 6.6% of parents often feel uncertain about their parenting abilities. Parenting can bring happiness and pride, yet balancing family and work can lead to stress and chaos, with societal expectations adding extra pressure.

During Parenting Week, the Association of Flemish Cities and Municipalities (VVSG), the Family League, and the Training Centre for Parenting and Childcare (VCOK) will highlight parenting and parenthood.

From 16 to 23 May, local authorities and organisations across Flanders will host activities involving and encouraging participation from parents. Parenting Week aligns with the International Day of Families, observed on 15 May.
