Households in Belgium pay less for natural gas than in most neighbouring countries, while electricity costs place them in the middle range.
The findings were published in a comparison of energy prices commissioned by the country’s regulatory bodies.
The study, conducted by consultancy firm PwC on behalf of CREG, BRUGEL, and the Flemish Regulator of Utilities, compared energy prices in January 2025 with those in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
Findings show that households and small businesses connected to low voltage are mid-ranked for electricity bills; they pay less than Germans and Brits but more than the French and Dutch.
This is a decline from a year ago when Belgians paid less for electricity than the Dutch, but while Dutch bills dropped in 2025, Belgian ones rose due to increased energy and network costs.
Despite a rise in gas bills, Belgium remains the cheapest for natural gas after the United Kingdom.
