Hervé Jamar, the Governor of the Province of Liège, has announced his resignation, as reported by Sudinfo on Saturday.

Hervé Jamar, 60, from Hannut, has served as governor since 1st October 2015. He is a former mayor, deputy, secretary of state, and budget minister.

Jamar cites health and family reasons for his decision, emphasising that he does not want to “overstay his welcome.” He remarked, “It’s perhaps a unique case in Belgium… I will be taking early retirement, even though my pension was set for 1st January 2027. But I’ve decided to stop. I feel like I’ve reached the end of my journey and believe it’s time for new blood.”

He also mentioned having experienced “very difficult, very trying” moments, particularly referencing the July 2021 floods. “I was deeply affected; it’s one of my worst memories,” he stated.
