A man stole a marking vehicle from the NAGE rescue zone in Namur last night, crashed it into several vehicles, and then fled the scene, according to the Namur firefighters on Saturday, confirming multiple media reports.
The theft occurred shortly before 2:00. The fire brigade van was being used during an intervention when the perpetrator seized the opportunity to steal it, as the engine was running and the vehicle was unattended.
He drove only a few hundred metres before losing control at high speed and crashing into several parked vehicles on Rue de Gembloux in Saint-Servais. He then fled on foot.
An investigation is underway to identify the suspect. The parked vehicles struck in the incident were largely destroyed and have been towed away, as has the fire brigade van.
