The CD&V party urges Flemish public broadcaster VRT to continue broadcasting religious services on Sunday mornings for the next five years, advocating for more space for religious content in regular and youth programming, according to Flemish Parliament member Gilles Bultinck.

“For CD&V, airing the Sunday morning mass is crucial,” Bultinck states. “It provides a reliable fixture for many Flemings who tune in for the service via the public broadcaster. Therefore, we seek to firmly embed this in the VRT’s new management agreement.”

The CD&V argues that the VRT should offer even more content related to spirituality and religion. “Many Flemings, including a significant number of young people, are seeking meaning. In an unstable geopolitical context and at a time when fleeting videos flood social media, this is understandable,” Bultinck explains. He emphasises that providing information on spirituality is a core responsibility of public broadcasting. “For CD&V, it is important to pay sufficient attention to religious views to foster greater understanding and create a stronger, warmer society.”

VRT CEO Frederik Delaplace questioned broadcasting the church services on public television in 2023, following the "Godvergeten" report about abuse in the Church. CD&V opposed the discontinuation then as well.
