Consumer confidence in Belgium rebounded strongly in May, increasing by 7 points from -14 to -7, the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) indicated on Tuesday.
All underlying indicators showed improvement, the bank noted.
The recovery in confidence, which had plunged in March and April, was driven by more optimistic economic prospects and a decrease in the fear of unemployment, the NBB explained.
This boost in consumer confidence is also evident on a personal level, with households reporting better expectations for their financial situation. That indicator jumped from -8 to -3.
Households’ intentions to save have also increased slightly, rising from 17 to 19.
