The Ghent Chamber of Justice has indefinitely postponed the case of a 33-year-old woman arrested in April for the involuntary manslaughter of her partner.
Police discovered the body of Sam De Pourck (33) in a central Ghent apartment after being alerted overnight on 17 to 18 April 2024. Kimberly L., the victim’s partner, was present. She claimed she called the emergency services following a dispute that escalated, and admitted to stabbing her partner.
Kimberly L. was brought before an examining judge and placed in provisional detention for involuntary manslaughter. A psychiatrist and psychologist were appointed to evaluate her, and they concluded that she was not criminally responsible.
The prosecutor asked for her to be committed to a psychiatric facility, which the defence accepted. However, the civil party filed a request for further investigation, causing the case to be postponed indefinitely.
The examining judge in Ghent has to decide on the request for an additional investigation. If it is denied, an appeal to the chamber is still possible.
