High-speed train operator Eurostar plans to cut around 150 jobs, with approximately 50 of these in Belgium, the company confirmed on Thursday following a report by French-language news site L-Post.

The reorganisation proposal includes over ninety jobs being eliminated in the United Kingdom. "These are solely office positions," a spokesperson explained. "The plans will not affect operational staff or employees who interact with customers."

Eurostar, which employs a total of 2,700 people, aims to address the job reductions primarily through voluntary departures.

The reorganisation is intended to "streamline the company and make it as efficient as possible," according to Eurostar. The company cites "a challenging economic climate and the merger of Eurostar with Thalys, which prompted a review of the organisation and costs."

Eurostar is mostly owned by the French railway company SNCF, with the Belgian company SNCB/NMBS also holding a stake.
