The Liège Correctional Court sentenced a resident of Wavre on Friday to a 15-month suspended prison term for abusing and attempting to prostitute a 15-year-old boy.

The events took place in the second half of 2019 after the accused met the young boy on a dating website. He had sexual relations with him for a fee, and was reported by the victim's mother when she learned that her son was prostituting himself in order to use drugs.

The accused maintained that the boy had told him he was 18 when they met. He said he cut ties with the victim when he learned of his real age.

However, the prosecution maintained that the defendant persisted in the unhealthy relationship despite knowing that it was illegal.

The court sentenced him to 15 months' imprisonment, suspended on probation.
