A police officer from the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles zone was apprehended by the United States FBI in April for “online solicitation of a minor for sexual purposes,” Sudinfo reports.
Texas law enforcers used an undercover operation to catch the Belgian policeman while he attempted to engage in sexual activity with a person clearly identified as a 14-year-old.
In Texas, soliciting a minor online for sexual purposes, regardless of their age, is an offence that can result in up to 20 years in prison, a substantial fine, and registration as a sex offender upon conviction.
The Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone said they were aware of the case.
An internal investigation was immediately launched to clarify the situation, and appropriate measures will be taken against the officer in question, according to the zone’s spokesperson.
