Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly in discussions with one of the 32 teams set to compete in next month’s Club World Cup, according to FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Ronaldo’s Saudi team, Al Nassr, did not qualify for the tournament in the United States, yet the 40-year-old Portuguese star might still make an appearance.
Infantino made these remarks during an interview with American YouTuber and streamer IShowSpeed. “Ronaldo might play for one of the teams in the Club World Cup. There are conversations with certain clubs. So if any club is watching and interested in bringing Ronaldo for the tournament…who knows, who knows,” Infantino commented.
FIFA has approved an additional transfer window from 1 to 10 June, specifically for the Club World Cup, allowing qualifying teams to acquire new players. The tournament kicks off on 14 June and spans a month.
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has been with Al Nassr since 2022. His contract is set to expire on 30 June, but multiple sources suggest an extension deal is nearly complete.
Previously, Infantino faced criticism for allowing Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami to participate in the Club World Cup, despite the Florida team not having secured any national or continental titles.
