On 21 May, Statbel, the official statistical office of Belgium, published its annual report on the well-being and living conditions of Belgian households. While the 5,000 respondents from across the country showed that Belgians are generally content, regional disparities show that not all are living the 'Belgian dream'.
While most Belgians say they have a broadly positive outlook on life, with stable levels of satisfaction and low rates of persistent loneliness, financial concerns remain a serious issue, especially for lower-income groups, lone parents, and residents of Brussels and Wallonia. Belgium is resilient, yet still marked by clear social and economic divides.
