Amidst a new surge of Russian air strikes against Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reiterated his call for sanctions against Russia.

Ukraine’s emergency services report that the attacks have claimed the lives of at least twelve people, with four killed in the capital, Kyiv, and others in Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr, and Mykolaiv.

Zelenskyy emphasises that without real pressure on Russian leaders, this brutality cannot be stopped, stating that sanctions will undoubtedly assist in curbing the aggression. He highlights the importance of determination from the United States, European countries, and all those advocating for peace, noting that the weaknesses of the Russian economy are well-known worldwide.

In over 30 Ukrainian cities and towns, rescuers are actively working, according to Zelenskyy, as the Russians have launched nearly 300 drones, mostly Iranian Shahed models, along with almost 70 missiles, including ballistic types.

Kaja Kallas, the EU’s high representative for foreign affairs, asserts that the strongest international pressure is now crucial to compel Russia to end the war. Kallas believes the latest attacks demonstrate Russia’s intent to inflict further suffering and destruction on Ukraine.
