A 32-year-old man from Arnhem, the Netherlands, was sentenced to two years in prison and fined €8,000 for selling cannabis within the Turnhout prison in Antwerp.

The accused was serving a 40-month sentence when, in July 2023, a cell inspection uncovered 21 packages containing a total of 145 grams of cannabis. Authorities also found a mobile phone in his possession, which he used to contact individuals who threw drugs over the prison wall.

The man’s cellmate was also convicted and received a one-year prison sentence and a €2,000 fine. He facilitated the financial transactions by directing the drug money through his brother’s bank account into that of his cellmate.
