The immersive ‘Jules Verne 200’ exhibition will open at the Horta Gallery in Brussels on 11 June, and is set to run until Autumn, organisers announced on Tuesday.

The exhibition, which will cover nearly 1,500 square metres, features many immersive and interactive spaces, blending metaverse, virtual reality, and 360-degree projections.

Visitors can dive into five of the French author's major novels: ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth,’ ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea,’ ‘Around the World in Eighty Days,’ ‘Robur the Conqueror,’ and ‘From the Earth to the Moon.’

A digital installation by artists will recreate “famous scenes from the novels as if they were impossible photojournalistic documents,” according to organisers. Iconic settings from the books will be brought to life through engravings, posters, and audiovisual extracts.

Visitors can also explore Verne’s life, from his early years in Nantes to his youth in Paris and his mature years in the peaceful city of Amiens.

Previously showcased in Barcelona, the exhibition is a collaboration between Belgian company Exhibition Hub and Layers of Reality, a Spanish augmented-reality, content-creation studio that has produced events such as ‘Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience’ and ‘Titanic: An Immersive Voyage.’

“Jules Verne is regarded as one of the most influential authors of all time, combining science, technology, imagination, and a spirit of adventure in his works,” the organisers note. “His contributions have had a profound impact on literature, cinema, and popular culture of the 19th and 20th centuries, and they continue to inspire today.”
