Hidden Belgium: Mokabon

Hidden Belgium: Mokabon

Hidden down a narrow lane in the heart of Ghent, Mokabon is a warm, dark place filled with the smell of slow roast coffee. Set up by a young Italian in 1937, it is now run by a friendly, young team.

The interior is decorated with red walls, small round tables and a red neon sign that guides you to this hidden spot. You can sit with a perfect La Marzocco espresso or pick up a bag of Mysore beans to take home.

Derek Blyth’s hidden secret of the day: Derek Blyth is the author of the bestselling “The 500 Hidden Secrets of Belgium”. He picks out one of his favourite hidden secrets for The Brussels Times every day.
