A teenage boy suspected of violently assaulting his mother’s ex-partner was arrested on Tuesday evening in Liège, the local authorities reported on Wednesday.
Initial reports suggest the incident began with an argument at the woman’s home between her and her ex-partner, during which the man damaged several items. The woman’s son, alerted by the conflict, intervened and allegedly attacked the ex-partner.
The victim was found unconscious on a dirt path, and his condition is critical; doctors note that his life remains in danger as of Wednesday. The prosecutor’s office issued a notice prohibiting the release of the body, highlighting the severity of the injuries.
The investigation quickly focused on the woman's family circle. The young suspect’s biological father initially attempted to shield his son, even claiming responsibility for the assault. However, authorities discovered that the teenager was indeed the perpetrator, leading to his eventual confession.
Both men are now in custody. The minor, who was born in 2008, is facing charges of attempted murder, while his father is charged with failing to assist a person in danger. The Prosecutor’s Office has referred the case for judicial investigation, requesting an arrest warrant to be issued.
