The Astana International Forum is currently being held in Kazakhstan under the theme “Connecting Minds, Shaping the Future.”
The major annual event, which is taking place this year on 29–30 May 2025, is bringing together global leaders, experts, and policymakers to address today’s most pressing international challenges. The initiative serves as a platform for multilateral dialogue and cooperation in a fragmented global environment.
At the plenary session yesterday, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the urgency of renewing global cooperation amid rising geopolitical tensions, nuclear threats, and the erosion of multilateral institutions.
He underscored Kazakhstan’s commitment to peace, non-proliferation, inclusive diplomacy, and sustainable development. Tokayev also called for reform of the UN Security Council to reflect contemporary realities and urged middle powers to play a stronger role in global governance.
Among other high-level participants were President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova of North Macedonia, Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset, FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, and former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Their remarks focused on the importance of regional cooperation, inclusive leadership, climate resilience, and the defense of democratic values.
With over 5,000 participants, including government officials, business leaders, and journalists, the Forum aims to consolidate Kazakhstan’s position as a neutral bridge-builder and convener in a rapidly changing world.
