The Belgian ‘Dignity’ foundation will host a second meeting for victims of sexual violence in Brussels on Saturday, 14 June.
The foundation established by the Church to handle reports of sexual abuse by religious leaders has handled over 1000 cases in recent years. Compensation has been paid in 80% of the cases.
The next event held in Brussels aims to enhance the Church’s policy against sexual violence. All victims are welcome to attend.
A previous meeting was held on 7 December, with a promise of a second session before summer.
During this upcoming event, victims will be updated on the progress made since the last gathering.
According to the foundation, it’s an opportunity to collectively consider ways to strengthen and improve the effectiveness of the policy against sexual violence.
The meeting’s purpose is not to serve as a support group or to discuss individual cases or personal experiences. The focus is strictly on policy matters.
The event will take place at Rue Guimard 1 in Brussels. The meeting will be led by Jessika Soors, appointed as the national coordinator in the fight against sexual violence in the Catholic Church in March.
The Dignity Foundation was established in 2012 by bishops and religious authorities to provide support and financial compensation to victims of sexual violence.
