Approximately 250 million bees escaped in the US state of Washington on Friday after a truck carrying 32 tonnes of hives overturned, American media reported.
The area has been cordoned off to let the insects settle and find their queen.
The truck overturned in Whatcom County in the northwestern United States, near the Canadian border. The cause of the accident remains unknown.
A warning was issued on social media advising people to avoid the area and stay at least 200 metres away.
