The large-scale police deployment in Paris on Saturday, which aimed to prevent unrest following PSG’s Champions League final victory, was neither a success nor a failure, according to Paris police chief Laurent Nuñez.
Nuñez explained at a press conference that the operation cannot be deemed a success because shops sustained damages, which the police aimed to prevent. However, he noted that it also cannot be considered a failure, as thousands were intent on causing destruction, but the police managed to prevent it in most cases.
Nearly 200 people were injured, including four fans in a serious condition. Nine police officers and gendarmes suffered minor injuries.
In total, 491 arrests were made in Paris, with 254 individuals remaining in custody.
