Designer Jonathan Anderson has been officially appointed as the artistic director of the women’s collection at Dior, replacing Maria Grazia Chiuri, the fashion house announced on Monday through social media.
The Northern Irish designer was already named head of Dior’s menswear line in mid-April and now oversees both collection lines at the Paris-based fashion house, marking a first in the brand’s history.
"Jonathan Anderson is one of the greatest creative talents of his generation. His unique artistic vision will be a vital asset in writing the next chapter of Dior’s history," stated Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH, the parent company of Dior.
Anderson will debut his first men’s collection for Dior on 27 June during Paris Fashion Week. He left Loewe in mid-March after spending 11 years leading the classic Spanish brand, which is also owned by LVMH and is a firm favourite among celebrities.
The 40-year-old Anderson trained at the London College of Fashion. He began his career in Prada’s marketing department before founding his own label, JW Anderson, in 2008. At Loewe, he built a reputation for craftsmanship and the use of luxury materials like leather and metal.
Last week, the departure of Maria Grazia Chiuri at the age of 61 was announced. Chiuri had been the artistic director at Dior since 2016, after succeeding Belgian designer Raf Simons.
