DIGI has been identified as the cheapest mobile telecom operator in the country, except for users who consume a high volume of data, according to the latest pricing study by telecom regulator BIPT.
The arrival of DIGI in the Belgian market has led to a significant shift in mobile telephony, with many brands responding to DIGI’s competitive offers by adjusting their pricing and data volumes.
Notably, the counter-response mainly came from B-brands such as Hey!, Mobile Vikings and Scarlet, while major brands like BASE, Orange, Proximus, Telenet and Voo tended to increase data volumes instead of lowering prices, with some even raising their prices.
It is more important than ever to compare prices, advises the government, which provides a tool at bestetarief.be to help consumers. "Even satisfied customers who do not wish to switch operators should check if their current plan aligns with their recent usage."
BIPT compared prices for five user profiles. For the profiles with the lowest data consumption—5, 10, and 20 GB per month—DIGI emerged as the most economical choice. Heavy and very heavy data users, requiring 50 or 100 GB, can find the best deals with Hey! and Tadaam. Last year, the average individual consumer used approximately 10.1 GB per month, according to BIPT estimates.
However, it is crucial to note that the price comparison does not consider service quality, which can vary. For instance, DIGI currently does not offer access to a 5G network or voicemail services, features typically included by other operators.
