A 54-year-old man stabbed a 38-year-old woman in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean last Thursday before turning himself in to the police, the Office of the Public Prosecutor (OPP) in Brussels confirmed on Monday.
According to a statement issued by OPP Spokesman Martin François, the man approached the police on 29 May and confessed to the killing. He was charged with murder and placed under arrest on 30 May.
The exact circumstances and motive behind the incident remain unclear and are under investigation.
Out of respect for the victim’s family and to safeguard the ongoing investigation, the Brussels OPP has declined to provide further comments.
