A 19-year-old man died after being stabbed following a fight outside a café in the early hours of Saturday morning. The victim has been named in the Belgian press as Théo Georges, from Verviers.

Emergency services were called to Spa city centre in the early hours of Saturday, May 31st, following reports of an altercation outside the Havana Café on Rue de la Poste.

Georges was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries. An autopsy took place on Monday, but the results have not yet been released.

On Sunday, the coroner confirmed the young man had received “three blows with a sharp object, one of which was probably fatal”.

Vanessa Clérin, Prosecutor for Verviers, said three individuals, all aged under 25, had been arrested on suspicion of murder. Police are still looking for a fourth suspect. According to Sudinfo, the suspects were taken in by the Fedasil centre in Spa several months ago.

The prosecutor added: “Investigators are continuing to shed light on the circumstances that led to this exchange of blows during which one person lost his life, as well as on the exact role of each of the protagonists in the case.”

Police officers are analysing CCTV footage and videos filmed by people present at the scene.

Another stabbing took place in Spa on Saturday evening, in the vicinity of the Parc de Sept Heures, causing serious injuries. The two incidents are said to be unrelated.
